The Glass Bridge exhibition, held at the Rangi Gallery in Dar es Salaam from 28 March to 4 April 2026, was a celebration of what happens when two different creative cultural traditions come together with a shared sense of purpose. Shanga, the beloved Arusha-based social enterprise that provides training and employment for artisans living with disabilities, joined forces with the master glassmakers of Murano, Italy, to create a collection of beautiful and meaningful pieces.
Working with internationally acclaimed designer Emmanuel Babled, the artisans transformed recycled glass sourced from local waste streams into objects which stood alongside some of the finest Italian glasswork. The exhibition was made possible through the support of the Italian Embassy, ITA (Italian Trade Agency), the Karimjee Group, Rangi Gallery, and Kukua. A highlight of the showcase was a special selection of Foscarini lamps paired with Shanga-designed glass pieces. It was a proud moment for all involved and testament to the incredible things that can be achieved when artisanal skill, sustainability and cultural exchange come together.

When The Nature Conservancy (TNC) helped to establish Loisaba Conservancy in northern Kenya nearly fifteen years ago, they set out with an ambitious goal to restore a landscape that had been affected by decades of poaching. They also set about to do it in a way that involved and benefited local communities. This steadfast commitment led to wonderful results including the reintroduction of twenty-one black rhinos to Loisaba and the first black rhino calf born in the region in half a century. The success at Loisaba has helped to shape TNC Africa's wider focus going into 2026, with the organization directing its efforts towards what it calls the Africa Big 5 Irreplaceable Landscapes, which include East Africa's rangelands, the Congo Basin, the Lake Tanganyika Basin, the KAZA transfrontier area, and the Blue Benguela ocean current. Loisaba sits at the heart of this vision as a cornerstone of East Africa's rangelands, and its story is a wonderful example of what long-term, partnership-driven conservation can achieve.

At The Manor at Ngorongoro, the secret to an exceptional meal is grown in the back garden. The property’s farm-to-table journey began thanks to the property's unique local climate, allowing them to establish a thriving kitchen garden that now supplies the menu, sustained by organic compost and natural pesticides produced entirely on site. By the time an ingredient reaches the kitchen, it has travelled mere metres from the ground where it grew.
The star of the garden is the year-round strawberry harvest. Picked only when perfectly sun-ripened and moved straight to the kitchen, these strawberries retain a sweetness and fragrance that imported alternatives simply cannot match. The recipe below, Textures of Strawberries, showcases their versatility across a strawberry and lemongrass consommé, white chocolate mousse, baobab meringue, and a blueberry and lime blondie.
