Since the birth of baby rhino Valentine in October 2024 - the first black rhino calf born at Loisaba following the translocation that same year, and the first born on the Conservancy in over 50 years - five more black rhino calves have been welcomed, bringing Loisaba’s total eastern black rhino population to 27.

This month also marked a special milestone for baby rhino Roz, who celebrated her first birthday on 2nd February. She has been regularly sighted moving confidently alongside her mother Seiya.

This growing population reflects the success of a collaborative effort between Loisaba, Kenya Wildlife Service, Elewana, and partners including Ol Pejeta Conservancy and marks a significant step for conservation in Kenya as well as the future of this critically endangered species. These important milestones support Kenya’s Rhino Range Expansion Initiative (KRRE), which is committed to securing safe, well-managed and connected landscapes where rhino populations can recover and thrive.
